To attain our year-on-year targets, several events have been planned from 2010-2015 starting this year. Some of them are:

INSPIRE – Lecture Series in Civil Engineering

This is one of the prized jewels of CES where we invite distinguished in-house faculty members, professors from organisations like IITs/Research Labs, Industry Leaders of Civil Engineering to deliver lectures on weekends. The lectures are encouraged to be of semi-technical nature that addresses the larger issues that are faced by Civil Engineering, though technical lectures are also most welcome. Objective is to educate students on how their work impacts the world and what career opportunities are available beyond the usual that are available on-campus. Though it primarily relates to Civil Engineering Research, on a case-by-case basis people with exceptional background (Like Entrepreneurs, Researchers) may be invited under this banner to deliver non-CE lectures.

Depending on the availability of funds, the target is to organise atleast 4 such lectures using in-house faculty members and 2 from outside colleges per semester.

INSPIREmini – For US. By US

This is the most focused programme of CES where Final year/Pre-Final year/Alumni students are invited to deliver short lectures on their achievements, experiences etc. Focus will be on disseminating first-hand information on GRE, GATE, CAT etc and non-traditional opportunities available outside the campus. Alumni who are studying overseas or in IITs/IIMs/IISc or working in top-notch companies (Including alumni from other branches/colleges) are invited to deliver these lectures. Objective is to connect the present students and alumni which is absolutely imperative for success in today’s world as well as educate present students on hitherto unexplored opportunities.

KOFFEE with CES

Koffee with CES is a first-of-its-kind initiative by any department of India and is designed to inspire Undergraduates of NIT Silchar to transcend boundaries of excellence in  learning, research, innovation, performance and leadership in their careers.. It is an interview series in the written format where CES  vounteers interview in-house faculty members as well Professors/Researchers/Industry Leaders/NITS Alumni across the world and is published online on our Website, Blog and our departmental magazine SHRiSTEE.  One of its prime goals is to promote a culture of excellence in the dept in all sectors and to inspire undergraduates to take up their careers with the right attitude.

INSPIRING INTERNS

These are symposiums where senior students from 3rd/4th year as well as Alumni share their Internship/Project/Training experiences with students and help them with contacts as well as advice. The main objective is to remove the added burden on TNP for finding training positions for CE students and equip the students with knowhow and existing industry/academia contacts. Focus will be to encourage students to go for Project/Training in CSIR R&D Labs, IITs/IISc/Foreign Universities and R&D Dept of top-notch companies. If possible publish a small booklet highlighting the experiences. A prime objective of this programme is to encourage students to take an early interest in Research as well as Industry.
